A Century In Diamonds

Antwerp, 1926

FROM THE DIAMOND CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

At twenty years old, Zelman Solowiejczyk left his family in Warsaw, Poland and set out for Western Europe in search of opportunity. He made his way to Antwerp, Belgium—the historic center of the global diamond trade—where he taught himself the business from the ground up.
Recognizing the immense demand created by the Industrial Revolution, Zelman focused on industrial diamonds. Together with his partner, Isaac Lieber, he built a thriving enterprise supplying the rapidly advancing manufacturing and engineering industries of the time.

New York City, 1940

A NEW BEGINNING IN AMERICA

As Europe moved toward war, Zelman and Isaac made the difficult decision to leave Antwerp and begin again in the United States. Settling in New York, they rebuilt their business during a period of extraordinary industrial expansion in post-war America.

1950s–1970s

EXPANSION INTO GEM DIAMONDS

The next generation of the Solow and Lieber families entered the company and expanded its focus beyond industrial diamonds into gem-quality stones—rare diamonds destined not for factories, but for fine jewelry.

This pivotal shift, led by Henry Solow and Arnold Lieber, would shape the future of the Solow family business.

1980s–2000s

THE FOUNDATION OF BESPOKE JEWELRY

In the 1980s, the third generation—Jack Solow—joined the firm and built a highly respected wholesale diamond business, supplying exceptional stones to jewelry houses across the United States.

In the 1990s, the two founding families separated their business interests, and the Solow family continued independently under the name Solow & Co. The focus increasingly turned toward rare and exceptional white and fancy color diamonds—the kinds of stones destined for important jewels and lasting heirlooms.

During this time, Jack expanded the company’s work directly with private clients, sourcing remarkable diamonds and creating one-of-a-kind pieces for collectors, friends, and notable figures around the world.

2018–2026

A LEGACY CONTINUED

The fourth generation joined the firm when Jack’s son, Josh Solow, began helping guide the company into a new era—bringing a contemporary perspective to marketing and client engagement while remaining deeply rooted in the family’s tradition of sourcing exceptional natural diamonds and creating bespoke fine jewelry.

Through this evolution, Solow & Co has extended its century of diamond expertise to a new generation of collectors and clients around the world.

A defining moment came in the summer of 2018, when Solow & Co was entrusted by the team of Justin Bieber to source and create an engagement ring for Hailey Baldwin. The result—an extraordinary diamond selected with precision and care—marked a significant milestone for the house and introduced Solow craftsmanship to a global audience.

We remain deeply honored to have been part of such a meaningful chapter.
